Imperialist aggression against Iran

The latest military attack by the US and Israel against Iran demonstrates the brutality of US imperialism, which is the primary source of war, instability and the threat to world peace. The ongoing conflict is a continuation of the attack carried out by the same two countries in June last year.

The accusations levelled against Iran serve as a smokescreen, much like those used in Iraq in the past, to legitimise war-mongering policies. Now they have dropped their masks and are openly calling for regime change.

This war is yet another manifestation of the plan to reshape the Middle East in favour of the US and Israel and to the detriment of the region’s peoples. It is another link in the same chain that includes the genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza, the ongoing annexation of the occupied territories in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and the military attacks on Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.

The US’s aggressive policy towards Iran and other countries must be assessed within the context of deepening imperialist and capitalist contradictions. This policy is yet another manifestation of the US’s escalating actions against peoples in various regions of the world, particularly in the Middle East and Latin America – Trump has indicated that Cuba is the next target.

For this reason, we recognise Iran’s right to self-defence. Without denying the reactionary nature of the ‘Mullahs’, it is essential first and foremost to condemn and halt US-Israeli imperialist aggression.

At the same time, the Turkish and Greek governments are attempting to capitalise on this conflict in order to maximise their spheres of influence and secure new markets for their capitalists.

For this reason, Athens is seeking to capitalise on this momentum by deploying strong military forces around Cyprus, aiming to position itself deep within the South-Eastern Mediterranean. For this reason, Ankara is sending reinforcements to the so-called TRNC, seeking to expand its sphere of influence in the Middle East and the Mediterranean both politically and militarily.

When viewed within the context of the fierce competition between the Greek and Turkish bourgeoisies, these actions heighten the risk of a new conflict between the two countries.

For this reason, we must refuse to provide any assistance to the US and Israel from either of our countries and demand that their direct or indirect involvement in this war be brought to an immediate end.

We must be resolute in our demands: an end to aggression against Iran, recognition of the sovereignty of all nations, support for the peoples fighting against imperialist intervention and all forms of oppression, and the dissolution of NATO.

This is the only way to achieve lasting peace in our region. Against the capitalists’ wars, peace for the peoples!
