International Anti-War Conference Underway in Athens

The International Anti-War Conference in Athens, convened on the initiative of Communist Liberation (Greece), began its proceedings on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.


On the morning of Wednesday, 22 July, delegates from the international organizations participating in the Conference met for an introductory gathering at the headquarters of Communist Liberation. At 3:00 p.m., the Conference officially opened  with its first plenary discussion, devoted to the theme:

"Imperialist Rivalries and the Anti-War Movement from the Standpoint of the Interests of the Working Class and the Peoples."

In the evening, participants held the second plenary discussion on:

"Latin America: The Resistance of the Peoples of the Continent."


On Thursday, 23 July, the Conference program continued with the third plenary discussion:

"The Situation in the Middle East in the Context of the Attack on Iran and Solidarity with the Palestinian People."

Later that day, at 7:00 p.m., a  public event was held at the Technical Chamber of Greece under the title:

"Internationalism Against the Wars of Capital, Imperialism, Nationalism and the War Economy: Struggling for a World Without Exploitation."



On Friday, 24 July, the Conference program includes a visit by the participating organizations and international delegations to the Kaisariani Memorial, where they will lay a wreath at the monument to the 200 executed communist resistance fighters and visit the EAM Museum in Kaisariani.

At midday, the Conference will resume with its fourth plenary discussion:

"Workers' Struggles Around the World Against War in Opposition to Bourgeois Politics."



On Friday afternoon, participants will hold the final session devoted to drafting and adopting the common "Athens Anti-War Declaration." The Conference will conclude with a farewell gathering at the Anaireseis Club, where comrades from Greece and abroad will have the opportunity to meet, exchange experiences and strengthen international ties.

  • GAR (Revolutionary Action Group) – Mexico

  • Force of October 18 – Chile

  • Socialists Without Borders – United States

An online intervention as an observer was also delivered by Alex Callinicos, member of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), Great Britain.

The Conference proceedings were also followed online by:

  • Socialist Dawn – North Macedonia

  • TAM (Työväen Antimilitaristit / Workers' Anti-Militarists) – Finland
